Explain how the structure of the villus is related to its role in absorption and transport of the products of digestion
The small intestine is important in chemical digestion + major site of absorption.
This means the wall of the small intestine is not just a smooth inner surface of a tube, but covered in villi.
Villi are small finger-like projections made of many cells.
The cells of the villus also have projection into the lumen of the fut: microvilli.
Their purpose is the increase the surface area of the small intestine.
