structure of the earth

?

TWO TYPES OF CRUST?

-continental and oceanic

Differences?

OCEANIC- thinner usially 6-8km thick, below oceans, made of basalt which is igneous rock and is denser and heavier than contiental, constantly being renewed

CONTINENTAL- forms land, made of granite, 30-50km thick, low density igneous rock

WHATS THE ATHENOSPHERE]

-under the lithosphere, made of liquid and upper part of the mantle

CONSTRUCTIVE- when plates move apart

conservative-move next to eachother and cause friction

collision- when plates collide

destructive- when one plate moves under the other by subduction

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LITHOSHOPHERE AND ASTHENOSPHERE

- lithosphere is top part of the mantle, including the crust which is seperated into plates

-athenosphere is hotter and thicker

HOW DO PLATES MOVE

-the heat inside earths manle creates convetion currents, which rise to top of mantle and push and move the plates which move at fingernail speed, this pushes them towards…
