Prokaryotes
Prokaryotes are simple cells such as bacteria and archaebateria.
Arcaebacteria are ancient bacteria with different types of cell wall and genetic code to other bacteria.
Prokaryotic cells:
- smaller than eukrayotic cells,
- Have a cytoplasm, a cell membrane and a cell wall,
- have genetic matherial in the form of a Dna loop together with rings of DNA (Plamid DNA),
- They have no nucleus.
The plasmid DNA- a small, commonly circular, section of the DNA that can replicate independently of chromosomal DNA.
Ribosomes- Sites of protein manufacture.
Chromososomal DNA- The DNA of the bacteria is not found within a nucleus and is usually found in one circular chromosome.
Flagella- Tail-like structures that rotate to help bacteria move.
Cell wall- Provides structual support to the bacteria (not made of cellulose).
Cytoplasm.
relative size:
A prkaryotic cell is between 1-10 micrometres.
A eukrayotic cell is between 10-100 micrometres.
Eukrayotic cell
Eukaryotic cells:
- Are more complex than prokaryotic…
