  • Stress suppresses the immune system of an indiviudal => they are more prone to illness
  • People who are for example, studying for exams (have suffered a bereavement/chronic/long-term stress) may notice they suffer colds and coughs more often when they are not going through a stressful time
  • The effect of stress on the immune system has been investigated using laboratory and natural experiments

AIM - to investigate the relationship between stress (in this case exam stress) and the functioning of the immune system 

PROCEDURE - a sample of medical students preparing for exams were used, the researchers took blood samples
