The faster the object is moving, the larger the braking force needed to stop the object.

For any braking force, the faster the object is moving, the greater the stopping distance.

Total stopping distance is distance covered by vehicle between driver spotting hazard and vehicle coming to complete stop.

Stopping distance = Thinking distance (distance travelled by vehicle during driver's reaction time) + Braking distance (distance vehicle travels under breaking force)
