*An institution is a place with rigid rules e.g army, prison, schoo, mental heatlh institution.
Procedure - Spitz observed children in institutions to see how they coped with deprivation of their caregiver.
Results - Children become increasingly depressed when deprived of their caregiver during a 3 month period. Depression was partial at first but became more severe (called hospitalism) after 3 months of deprivation. Partially depressed children could recover is reuinified with their…
