specific heat capacity is the amount of energy needed to raise the temp of 1kg of a substance by 1 degree celsius

∆E=mcӨ

∆E=change in thermal energy(J)]

m=mass(kg)

Ө=temperature change(celsius)

c=specific heat capacity(J/kg-degrees celsius)

investigating specific heat capacity:

measure the mass of the block of material and wrap it in an insulating layer to reduce energy transferred from the block to the surroundings

insert thermometer and heater

measure the initial temp of block and set the pd of the power supply to 10V

turn on power supply and start stopwatch

as block heats up take readings of the temp and current every minute for 10 minutes

the current in the circuit does work on the heater and
