What reasons explain the increase in divorce rate?

Changes in the law this means that in the 19^th century divorce was very difficult to obtain especially for women. There have been 3 types of changes in the law:

1.       Equalising the grounds (the legal reasons) for divorce between the sexes

2.       Widening the grounds for divorce

3.       Making divorce cheaper
