Crime and Deviance
Definition of Crime:
Behaviour which breaks the law and is punished by the legal system
Examples: murder, ****
Definition of Deviance:
Behaviour which goes against the norms, values and expectations of a social group or society
Examples: swearing, picking your nose, spitting in public etc
Crime and Deviance a social construction?
· Both determined by culture, although deviance more than crime.
· Example: 100 years ago it was deviant for women to wear trousers now it’s acceptable
