Socialist realism

Stalin believed that art should:

• Reflect government opinion - 'selling' government social and economic policy
• Celebrate the achievements of collectivisation and the Five-Year Plans
• Glorify Stalin by suggesting that he was Lenin's natural successor, showing how much he cared for the Russian people,  removing reference to his opponents and celebrating his revolutionary and war record
• Be accessible to peasants and workers
• Be realistic
