aim: to investigate the effects on behaviour of putting ppts in two groups unequal in terms of power

procedure:

 field experiment

15 males- different backgrounds

* prison environment

* males put into 5 groups of 3

* ppts psychologically tested daily

* guards told to run prison smoothly-  asked to produce rules and punishments (no violence)

* lived in better conditions than prisoners

* researchers manipulated events to see effect on behaviour

* on 3rd day they were told promotion…
