The purpose of education is to:

1) Prepare people for work

2) to give people a broader understanding of life through learning

3) to develop skills

4) to learn how to cooperate with others and accept that some people have authority over others.

Social Democratic Approach to Education:

Encourages state intervention in policy making. It stresses the importance of community and that individual rights within education need to be protected and maintained.

Hasley saw education as a means to achieve equality and promote equality of opportunity, the goal is to eliminate class divisions and develop of comprehensive education - 'all abilities and social classes under one roof'. This approach therefore promotes inclusivity.
