M+F Similarities and DIfferences:
All organisms have two basic challenges:
- Survival (food, growth, health)
- Reproduction (and aiding the success of next-generation)
Traits that both men and women want - kindness, intelligence, beauty, creativity, charm, and wit.
Differences - men have more emphasis on youth and beauty, and women have more emphasis on status
The Handicap Principle:
Relates to how a male peacock will grow a considerable tail that serves little purpose and serves as a handicap and it requires numerous resources to grow and makes it harder to escape predators. Because of this, females are impressed with a bigger tail since it signals that the male is fit enough to find enough food and evade predators, despite the handicap.
