Both propose that behaviour results from learnt experience
Behaviourism ignores internal mental processes, SLT suggests they must be present for learning
Case study - Bobo doll (Bandura's research - 1961)
- Children were matched on levels of aggression
- Groups watched vdeos of aduts being aggressive/not aggressive/neutral with Bobo doll
- Aggression was imitated in group who watched adult's model aggression, other groups were not aggressive
- Effect was stronger if adult was same gender as child - imitation and identification
Imitation: when behaviour is observed from model and reproduced
Identification: models with characteristics we relate to are more lkely to be imitated
