Introduction

• stereotype - widely shared evaulative image of social group
• prejudice - unfavourable attitude to social group
• discrimination - behaviour or actions to individual or groups, usually negative

Stereotypes

• 'fixed, overgeneralised belief about a particular group or class of people'
• advantage is it enables us to respond to rapidly to situations because of similar situations before
• but it makes us ignore individual differences, so we make generalisations

Types of prejudice and discrimination

• race, age, gender, appearance, social status
• sexism, four main stereotypes for women (housewife, ****…
