Initially, the Prince is seen as an authoritative figure through the use of the phrase 'rebellious subjects' The use of the adjective 'rebellious' shows the audience that the Prince knows of the 'ancient grudge' between the two families and is angered by their fights in the streets. The deliberate use of the noun 'subjects' implies that the Prince is aware of his place in the heirarchy and he has control over the two families.
