Smoking is bad for us because it can give us lung cancer. Tar in the tobacco builds up in our lungs making it harder to breathe. Carbon monoxide enters the body and binds to the haemoglobin in red blood cells so it can't carry as much oxygen which increases your blood pressure.

Tobacco smoke contains:

  • Tar - contains carcinogenc chemicals
  • Particulates - irritates lungs
  • Nicotine - addictive stimulant, increases heart rate and blood pressure
