Summary of SLT applied to gender development
1) Direct reinforcement
positive - more likely to be reinforced for showing behaviour that is gender appropritate
negative- more likely to repeat a behaviour to avoid a negative consequence
punishment- less likely to repreat a behaviour if it leads to neagative consequences .e.g gender inappropriate
The way boys and girls are reinforced to show distinct gender appropriate behaviour is known as DIFFERENTIAL REINFORCEMENT- this is how a child develops their gender identity
