The ways for someone to become a slave were:

• Be born of a slave mother so brought up as a slave.
• Be captured in war and get sold into slavery.
• Be a criminal and get condemned into slavery.
• Be captured by pirates and sold into slavery.
• If your mother abandoned you at birth you could be saved and brought up as a slave.
• You could voluntarily become a slave.
• Fathers could sell their children into slavey if they needed the money. 

Once a slave was captured he would be taken to rome where he could be sold in the forum or he would be taken to the Greek island called Delos and he would be sold there. They would stand on a revolving platform with a sign around their neck displaying their information age skills etc. Slaves normally sold for 500-2000…
