Singh Song!

?

Context

Daljit Nagra claimed to be "fed up with grim, English love poetry". He was a second generation Indian immigrant; this poem is from an anthology that expresses the fear of other cultures. He claims that the speaker in this poem is not him, and that the main themes are change, culture, love and acceptance. Nagra often explores the conflict between 1st generation Indians, with a strong devotion to their home culture, and 2nd generation Indians, who also enjoy British culture.

Language

The name Singh is taken by all Sikh men.

"Just one" implies that his father owns a chain of shops, which is common for Indian immigrants.

"9 o'clock to 9 o'clock" shows his views on the work day; it is restrictive and long.

He "do di lock" because he prioritises love over work; showing the views of second generation immigrants, or, perhaps just the younger generation.

His dialect shows his love for his culture…

not very helpful for all the Stanzas. I would suggest adding more then just the form of the poem
