Simple Reflexes
Defined as a rapid automatic response to a stimulus
- Response is always the same for the same stimulus
- Provides the fastest route from receptor to effector
- Has a protective effect to avoid harm and protect tissue damage
- No conscious control as the brain is not involved, so is not learned
- Examples of reflexes -
- withdrawal reflex (hand away from hot surface)
- stretch feflex
- coughing/sneezing/blinking
- prevention of tendons and muscles overstretching
