Darwin:

Intrasexual Selection- Competing with other members of the same sex for access to mates.

Intersexual Selection- The selection of particular traits in the opposite sex.

Short-term mating preferences:

  • Females cannot have as many offspring as males and therefore invest more in those they do have
  • They look for men who can support them in this
  • Males can impregnate many females and so invest less in their offspring
  • Males look for fertitlity signs like good skin and hair in a mate to produce the healthiest…
