Settlement - Counter urbanisation

HideShow resource information

Urbanisation - The movement of people from rural areas into cities

Counter urbanisation - Movement of people from cities to rural areas

Depopulation - Decline in population

People who tend to commute to the rural area are families and retirerees and then the young people move out of rural reas into cities for work and facilities which rural areas cant offer.

5 main reasons for counter urbanisation:

1) Increaseed car ownership

Allowing people to live further from where they work and road networks have been improved

2) Increase in pollution, traffic and crime

Making the area less pleasant to live and people with families want to live somewhere more neighbourly.

3) Improvements in technology
