Sepsis

Sepsis is a life threatening infection within the body. Sepsis can affect the tissues and organs within the body. It causes tissue damage, organ failure and can be fatal. 

The red flags of sepsis are: Immuno-surpressed children e.g. those with sickle cells disease or diabetes. Children who are undergoing chemotherapy treatment for cancer, children with catheters or IV lines in as bacteria and infection can get in through open skin. Children who have had surgery in the past 6 weeks are also at greater risk of developing sepsis. Children with cuts or open wounds on any body part are also at risk of spesis. Children who haven't had their childhood vaccinations or those under the age of 1 year.
