fractional distillation -
- purity measured by checking boiling points.
- separates 2 or more liquids with different boiling points.
- 1. heat mixture with an electric heater in flask with fractioning column.
- 2. vapours begin to form.
- 3. liquids with low boiling points evaporate first, pass through the condenser are are collected.
- 4. temp raised to collect higher boiling points (and to distill water).
- uses: purify or strengthen alcohols.

- 1. solution in evaporating dish.
- 2. heat over bunsen burner.
- 3. water evaporates so amount of liquid decreases.
