Designing questionnaires

• Closed questions can be divided into different types

Likert scales

• A scale in which the respondent indicates their agreement with a statement using a scale of usually 5 points
• The scale ranges from strongly agree to strongly disagree

Rating scales

• Works in a similar way but gets respondents to identify a value that represents their strength of feeling about a particualr topic

Fixed choice option

• Includes a list of possible options and respondents are requierd those that apply to them

Designing interviews

• Most interviews involve an interview schedule, the list of questions that the interviewer intends to cover
• This should be standardised for each ppt, to reduce the contaminating effect of interviewer bias
