Earthquakes can cause Tsunamis:

  1. Tsunamis are large waves cause by displacement of large volumes of water
  2. They can be triggered by underwater earthquakes. The earthqauke causes the seabed to move, which displaces water. Waves radiate out from the epicentre. The greater the movement of the sea floor, the greater amount of water diaplced and therefore the greater the the wave.
  3. Volcanic eruptions and landslides can cause tsunamis
  4. They are normally more powerful if they start close to the coast
