How Fast Product Appears

  • Catalase catalyses the breakdown of hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen: you can collect the oxygen and measure how much is produced in a set time
  • Use a pipette to add hydrogen peroxide to a boiling tube and put the boiling tube in a water bath at 10°C
  • Place a measuring cylinder inverted in a tub of water, with a delivery tube inside it connecting to the H2O2
  • Add a source of catalase, e.g. 1cm² potato, to the H2O2 and quickly attach the bung
  • Record how much oxygen is produced in the first minute, and repeat three times
