These are known to have unusual effects on patients, and some claim that they explain near-death experiences.This seems an unlikely explanation, since drug induced experiences would be random in the effects, whereas the NDE is quite structured.

ANOXIA/ HYPOXIA

Stalling the brain of oxygen can produce altered states of consciousness, and so perhaps explain the nde. this seems an unlikely explanation, hypoxia confuses the dying brain; the nde does not. The effects of inducing oxygen starvation can be induced through putting pilots in cetrifuge.
