What is homeostasis? B4

Homeostasis best defined as maintaining a constant internal environment, this is controlled by both the digestive and endocrine systems.

The endocrine system generally acts slower than the nervous system. One exception of this trend is the hormone adrenalin which is often produced in emergency situations.

There are six things controlled in this way and you must be aware of this. Carbon dioxide and urea must be removed as they are waste products and could damage the body if in high amounts.

There are three substances that are used by the body that need to be kept at the correct levels and they are:

  • Sugar 
  • Ions
  • Water

Another factor in the body that needs to be kept at the correct level is temperature as the body cannot run at it's best below or above 37' c.

It is very important our body stays as a constant internal environment.

Carbon dioxide is a waste product of respiration and is removed by the lungs.
