Atomic structure: atoms contain protons and neutrons in the nucleus, and electrons that whizz around the nucleus. A protons relative mass is one, they're positive. A neutron is neutral and their mass is one. An electron weighs neay nothing and they're negative. An atom is overal neutral (unless an ion) the mass number is the amount of protons and neutrons , the atomic number Is the protons and there are the same amount of electrons as protons . An ion is a charged atom this is the result is an ionic bond where electrons are moved from the highest energy level. An ionic bond is between a metal and non metal. The metal atom turns into a positive ion because it lost a electron, and the non metal atom makes a negative ion because it gains an electron…
