The alliance between Russia, America and Britain had never been an easy one; indeed, even before the fall of Britain, all sides were contemplating a continuation of WWII in which America and Britain would fight the USSR

  • By 1946, the Grand Alliance of WWII had broken down and, in Stalin's words, 'two camps' had emerged
  • Eastern Europe allied with the Soviet Union under the banner of sociaism, whilst Western Europe and the USA embraced capitalism and democracy
