RUSSIA IN 1881
LAND AND PEOPLE
Because of Russias massive amount of land, the population was scattered across it which meant a few things:
-
- Poor transport systems meant that communication was hard between parts of Russia.
- 60% of people were not Russian, with 200 different races which meant that there were often conflicting cultures and religions.
- Most of the land was Tundra, completely frozen, it was useless to farm and so all of the people lived on 5% of the land.
This made Russia a very hard place to rule.
GOVERNMENT
The Tsar believed he was chosen by God to rule Russia, this is an autocracy. (one person having all the power)
There were no elections or parliment, but a council of ministers gave advice to the Tsar. Without trade unions…
