Roman Law enforcement

  • Aediles - officals who were responsable for enforcing minor crime e.g. the selling of underweight bread 
  • Vigiles - 7000 men, patrolled at night, aimed to catch runaway slaves, mean't to act as 'police' but ended up fighting fires 
  • Urban cohorts - 3000 men, duty was to deal with riots
