Romeo and Juliet 

Act 1 opens with the Montagues  and Capulets fighting. We find out that Juliet is goin to have an arranged marriage to a man named Paris at the age of 13. However, her father wants her to wait until she i sa little older. 

In the prologue, dramatic irony is used in which the audience find out that Romeo and Juliet are going to take their own lives. Not only is there tension between the two families, but there is tension between the Capulets, as Juliet is beeing pressurised into an arranged marriage. 

The story so far

Romeo whent to the Capulet's party as he was advised to "examin other beauties", where he meets Juliet and they confess their love for one another. Later they make the decission that they want to get married but find out that they aren't allowed to love eachother.

Mercutio and Tybalt start fighting which results in Mercutio getting stabbed by Tybalt. Mercutio dies and when Romeo sees this, he wants revenge. Romeo then finds Tybalt where another fight breaks out and this results in Tybalt's death. The Prince finds out about the deaths and Romeo gets sent into exile. He is not allowed anywhere near the City and if he is, he shall be executed. 

Juliet's parents want her to marry Pars, however Juliet does not want that. Her father says that she has to or she is no daugher of his. The nurse tells her that she should marry Paris because she may not see Romeo anymore seeing as he is in exile. She goes to see Friar Lawrence who gives her a plan for her to avoid marrying Paris so her and Romeo can be together for all eternity. The plan is that she tells her father that she will marry Paris but at night she will take a potion which will make her appear dead but she is actually in a really deep sleep. The Friar would send a message to Romeo which will inform him of the plan so he wont think she is dead and
