The romantic period

The romantic period contrary to what the word itself states and mirrors itself as being, is nothing encompassing the resplendent form of love and damsel in distress which we so willingly embrace today.

The romantic period actually was a period in which you had the return to the self; it was a rejection of the Age of Enlightenment, scientific advancement and industrialisation, a period where nature was seen as evil.

The spur was the French Revolution, wherein we saw the overhaul of the establishment and the ruling class order. Yet the poetry which arose during this momentous period spanning from 1789 tom1837, did not focus on the rebellion itself, but on nature and the individual.
