The Hydrological Cycle - Drainage Basin Terminology:
Interception - When precipitation lands on vegetation or other structures i.e. buildings, concrete etc. before it reaches the soil - only temporary as the collected water evaporates quickly.
Vegetation storage - Water that's been taken up by plants.
Surface storage - Water in puddles, ponds and lakes.
Groundwater storage - Water stored in the ground e.g. soil or rocks.
Water table - Top surface of the zone of saturation - zone of soil or rock where all the pores in the soil or rock are full of water.
Channel storage - Water held in a river or stream channel.
Surface run-off - Water flowing over the land - common in arid areas where torrential rain falls on…
