Right realism- crime is crime
· Situational crime prevention/ being tough on criminals
· Focus on individuals rather then wider social issues
· Individuals chose crime/ so must be dissuaded from doing so
· If they cannot be dissuaded- must be punished
· Have two main polices situational crime prevention and increased social control
Situational crime prevention
· Deprives from opportunity theories of crime such as routine activity theory (Felson/Clarke) and rational choice theory (Cornish and Clarke)
· Routine activity theory suggest crime occurs as part of everyday routines when 3 conditions are present
