Central and northern Italy:
- the Grand Duke of Tuscany and the King of Piedmont promised to introduce constitutions due to serious disturbances
- the states above set example soon to be followed by the Pope in the Papal States due to serious disturbances
- Modena and Parma's leaders fled their states in fear for their lives due to serious disturbances
- trouble soon began in Milan where in Austrian-controlled Lombardy, a tobacco boycott was introduced (tobacco was an Austrian state monopoly)
