Revolutions: success in central/northern Italy

Central and northern Italy:

  • the Grand Duke of Tuscany and the King of Piedmont promised to introduce constitutions due to serious disturbances
  • the states above set example soon to be followed by the Pope in the Papal States due to serious disturbances
  • Modena and Parma's leaders fled their states in fear for their lives due to serious disturbances
  • trouble soon began in Milan where in Austrian-controlled Lombardy, a tobacco boycott was introduced (tobacco was an Austrian state monopoly)
