Why was there a revolution in Germany in 1918?

There was a revolution in Germany in 1918 as the army refused to do something and marched to Berlin instead to protest against the Kaiser. This encouraged other people to begin protesting aswell and they wanted the Keiser to step down. Another reason for the revolution was that Germany was close to loosing the war. When they joined the war they had lots of power but when the United States joined the war, it tipped the balance of conflict in favour of the US, Britain, France and Russia.
