Investigating the effect of different concentrations of sugar solution on plant tissue

Method

Potatoes can be used to measure the effect of sugar soultions on plant tissue:

1. Cut identical cylinders in height of potato tissue and measure their mass

2. Place the cynliders in differnt concentrations of sugar soultion

3. After about 30 minutes remove the cylinders

4. Roll each cylinder of potato across tissue paper to remove excess solution

5. Measure the mass of each potato cylinder again

If the cylinders have change in mass, they have either gained or lost water by the process of osmosis
