Reproduction in plants
There are two types of reporduction - sexual reproduction and asexual reproduction.
Advantages of sexual reproduction:
- The species can adapt to new environments
- introduces variation into a population
- A disease is less likely to affect all the individals in a population.
Disadvantages of sexual reproduction:
- Not possible for an isolated individual
- Time and energy are needed to find a mate
Advantages of asexual reproduction:
- Population can increase rapidly
- Can exploit a suitable habitat quickly
Disadvantages of asexual reproduction:
- Does not lead to variation in a population
- Disease may affect all the individuals in a population
- The species may only be suited to one habitat
Two parents are needed in sexual reproduction, and the offspring produced are genetically different…
