Changing attitudes towards marriage and divorce

Most people have sex before marriage, socially acceptable for people to live together unmarried (cohabit).

The age to get married has increased and not many get married in church.

A civil partnership was introduced in 2004.

Divorce is now accepted as part of normal life.

Reasons for the changes

Contraception made sex safer to prevent pregnancy.

Christianity lost its influence.
