DESIGN ARGUEMENT

Based on the idea that the world appears to be created or designed, and it must have a creator, who must be God.

Isaac newton gave the example of the thumbprint as evidence for the design arguement. Thumbprints indicate that the world has been designed, as they were unique and there is no natural reason for humans to all have different thumbprints. Therefore the must have been designed.

William Payley said that oif you found a watch on the ground it would have a design and purpose, the universe shows design and order, the watch and the universe must have a designer. the designer must be god.

Strength-

-there are many thing which have to be 'just right' for life to exist on earth. the elements of carbon and oxogen are needed for human life, if there was a percentage more or less humans would die. if earth was warmer it would be less likely to be able to survive. This is an example of a  FINE TUNING arguement - it has had lots of little things contributing to an overall outcome.

-points to a purpose  for life on earth, if humans were designed, and many humans like to feel that they have a purpose. 

Weaknesses-

-The world doesnt seem well designed; earthquakes cause devistation and desease. If there are flaws which god wouldnt design, this is evidence that the world wasnt designed. An all loving…
