Religion and the Clash of Civilisations

HideShow resource information
  • Recently, religion has been at the centre of many global conflicts... including WW1, WW2, 9/11 etc. Such conflicts have intensified since after the communist society in 1989 and are symptoms of HUNTINGTON'S clash of civilisations
  • Hungtington identifed 7 civilisations where; western, latin american, confucian, japanese, islamic, hindu and slavic orthodox. each has a common culture background and history and is linked through a traditional religion. Shared religion creates social cohesion within society but can cause conflict between them. This is particularly true in today's globalsied society as we all know more about each other's society's and therefore about their religion. religious differences have become a major source of identity for us
