• PRCs common progamme promised religious freedom 
• Ching Min festival replaced by National memorial day, remembering communists who had died for freedom 
• Religous Leaders invited to the NPCC in 1949
• Protestant leaders pressured otp prhanising "patriotic church movemet" a communist church 
• by april 1952 only 100 protestant missionaries were left in the country
• The Vatican refused to accept the patriotic church movement as their own 
• by 1953 only 364 cathotlics left in China
• in 1955 a further crackdown…
