Carl Jung was born in 1875 in Switzerland and worked with psychiatric patients
- Jung realised that Freud's view of the subconscious was too narrow, so he set out to demonstrate a wholly distinctive understanding of the mind, which put religion in a more positive light
- Unlike Freud, who saw religion as a neurosis, Jung saw it as something necessary for personal growth
