Refracting Telescopes

  • Light travels in straight lines
  • It can change direction when it moves into a different material
  • The change in direction is called REFRACTION
  • It changes direction at an INTERFACE (boundary) between 2 materials
  • A line at right angles to the interface is called the NORMAL line
  • In a REFRACTING TELESCOPE, a convex lens
