• Britain needed a larger army so the government encouraged men to join up by:

    • women of Britain say go
    • remember Scarborough
  • leaflets
  • recrueitment offices in towns
  • speeches
• British newspapers encouraged people to hate Germans and join the army by printing newspaper stories
• the recruitment campaign was very successful:
  • 1/2 million joined up in the first month
  • 2 million joined up by 1916
