In the early days of the Church, there seemed no need for a Gospel - there were lots of eyewitnesses who would keep the memory of Jesus alive and pass on stories and teachings. In addition, early Christians were expecting the Second Coming when Jesus would return and all who were saved would enter the Kingdom of God. If the world was about to end, there would seem to be no need for a Gospel.
